Hello, This week my project was to complete BINGO. I decided to do the first row under the B. From finding something that is all primary colors, photograph landscape around me, 3 textures around me, finding an object that utilizes a line, and find a small image and range it up to 2 scale. Most of the pictures that I took was in a path in my neighborhood. Most of the photographs my sister helped me take. I had a lot of fun during this project but to be honest, I had a hard time figuring out the line one of the BINGO. First, I took a picture of pipe near a lake and I also noticed a line when I lined up my books. I am not sure if these picture for lines are the best. But my favorite pictures were probably the ones that I took in the forest; one was through the handler of the bridge and the other was through a tree leaf. I also really liked the two scale flower photo that I did. Overall, this project was really fun to do. Slide 1: Small image that is ranged up to 2 scale Slide 2: Primary colors Slide 3: Different textures Slide 4: Line Slide 5: Unique Landscapes Thank you for reading!!

Hello,
This week I worked on a project called, "Object Arranger." This project is inspired by the artist, Adam Hillman, who uses different materials and pattern to create cool and interesting designs. He used different colors of lollipops to create a circle going from lightest to darkest. I was inspired by his arts and use of pattern and shapes. The first thing that I did was draw some ideas down. I have two ideas but I created only one so far. I also loved the shape of a diamond; I don't know why but I also love it. It's probably much my favorite shape of all time. So I decided to create a design out of diamonds. I just decided to have one diamond on top of the paper before having one diamond slightly lower than the first. From then on, I created this pattern, having one diamond on top and one slightly beneath it. After creating my design, I went after my materials. My sister, Maria, has a much of beams for necklaces and bracelets and I decided to use them. I decided to use them for the fact that they had multiple colors and there were a lot of beams for me to use. Then I started to create my piece. At first, it was just a much of diamonds with some being higher than others and other lower then others. I also created another pattern inside of my diamond. The one diamond started off with red one beam, two orange beams, three old yellow, and four neon yellow beams then I repeated it until I got to the end. I also create another pattern in the diamond directly beneath that diamond. This pattern was exactly the opposite of the one on top of it so I started with a neon yellow beam and two yellow ones. The colors were important to be me and I used all the same one when creating yet another pattern. I would go from red and yellow diamond to purple and pink diamond to green and yellow diamond. Part of why I used all the same colors for my main diamonds is because I wanted the colors to be constant and with that particular type of beams, I only had a limited amount of beams. Once I was done, I took a step back and I liked what I had but I felt that I needed more. I liked that my piece was balance with having each diamond go from up or low and consisted of pattern. But I needed more in my piece. I talked to Ms. Sudkamp, she suggested that I need more like seashells. I tried to add them to my piece but my seashells were too large and made my piece look off. When that didn't work, I return to the my sister's beams but this time, I used a different type of beams than the one that I originally used in the beginning. I still wanted to keep the pattern of diamond and colors going but in different ways. I used the same color to create a diamond outline around the top and bottom diamonds that matched each other. I also created yet another pattern of having two diamonds have outlines and the next not having one but instead a small diamond coming out of the top. After that, I was finally done. I think that I was quite successful on my piece. I created a piece out of the same shape and multiple patterns that looked good and interesting to my eyes. I quite enjoyed my piece. With this piece, I learned to have patient and be careful. I had to work very slowly in order to create my piece and if I move too much, I would mess it up. I also learned about trial and error. For example, I started off with seashells but that didn't work so I returned to the beams. I tried out multiple shapes, positions, and colors before I found one that I liked. I really enjoyed this project and I can't wait to do it again. Part 1.
1. They have to make 2 slip casted vases. 2. B. 3 colored clays 3. Artists are given 5 and half hours to slip caste and decorate. 4. Liquid clay is called porcelain slip. 5.The slip needs to be stirred to get to the: C. right consistency. 6. The colored clay looks exactly like it will when it is fired: False 7. Each minute equals about 1 millimeter of thickness. 8. The rubber bands need to be tight. 9. Organization is key in the process: true. 10. Getting the cast out in one piece is very hard. 11. Artists are worried about carving too deep: A. Collapse Part 2: 1. They are looking for the widest bowl. 2. They have 10 minutes. 3. There are 2 balls of clay they use on the wheel. 4. Who won: C. Renaldo Part 3. 1. When opening the kiln, the colors looked: brighter. 2. There are 18 vases. 3. Leonard. 4. Claire. 5. I do agree with Leonard being cut because the porcelain slip was too thin for him to the design that he did, his piece ended up, unfortunately, looking like a mess. It looked like it collapsed and that's not a pretty look. Also, the color didn't look that great; the yellow looked washed out and overall, it wasn't as well constructed and pretty looking as the other artists' pieces. 6. I do agree with Claire being top potter because her piece ended up fantastic. The delicate details throughout was beautiful and you could really see each individual piece of the feather. The story behind why Claire added feather to her piece was beautiful and emotional and that made her piece even better. Also, like the judges said, her color were great, bright and vibrant. None of the colors blended into each other and you could truly see each different color. 7. Drawing. THello,
Right now, we are working on a project that involve creating a small pendant of clay for a necklace or piece of jewelry. I decided to create a pendant after the cathedral of Brasília. This is a building or monument that can be found in the capital of Brazil, Brasília. Oscar Niemeyer designed this building but it was build by Brazilian structural engineer Joaquim Cardoze. It was finalized on May 13, 1970. I decided to create my pendant after this building because I personally have always wanted to go Brasília. I have never been there before; I have only been to São Paulo my entire life in Brazil and I would like to visit more place in Brazil. Also, I really loved the design of the building and Oscar Niemeyer's designs of buildings. Niemeyer is quite famous and popular In Brazil. I decided to do two different pendants; one that is close copy to the building and the other one, I am going to attempt to only do the white part of the building without having the windows. With my second pendant, I'm going to follow the third reference picture that I have. This picture was taken back when they were first building the cathedral and they began by creating the piece that goes around the cathedral before adding the windows and the inside of it. I created my first piece by grabbing a small block of clay before shaping it to resemble the cathedral of Brasília. I tried to make the top more curve in to self while the bottom was more flat out. Once I had the shape and size that I wanted, I began to rock out small and long sticks of clay for the structure around the actual building. It actually took three tries to get the shape/size right for my first piece; at first, it was too tall and the second time, it was too fat and thick. The third time, however, was just right; I sound like Goldilocks from the fairy tale. One thing that I would change about my piece is that when I rocked out my sticks, I added right away to my piece. I wish that I had rocked out all the pieces before adding them to my piece because some ended up taller than others and thicker than others. The last thing that I did was use an old pencil to add some dots or windows around my piece. Next, I got started on my next piece. First, I got a piece of clay before flatting it out to a thin circle and after I add another one in order to add more depth and thickness to the piece. Later, I did the same thing except for the bottom of the piece. The next thing that I did is rock out more sticks of clay but this time, I rock them out first and then added to my piece. When I started adding the sticks to my piece, I quickly realize my original plan was not going to work. I only had two pieces of flatted circles and sticks but when I tried to add them, the entire piece would collapse. It would collapse because there was nothing in the middle to support it. So I ended up, grabbing a block of clay and sticking it between the top and bottom of my piece. If I could redo this, I wish that I could have had my piece standing without the need of the block of clay as a wood piece that I could remove later or piece of paper. Because I wanted my piece to kinda look like a cage but I think that it lost that appearance once I added the block of clay. The one thing that I really enjoyed about all my pieces was that they had unique shape to them and the back story to what it is and why I picked it. The shape of my pieces follows the shape of the cathedral of Brasília from the top being more curved into itself and the bottom more flatted out. I also added the texture of the windows by pressing the end of my pencil alongside my first piece. I created balance in my second piece by adding a block of clay in the midst of the top pieces. Season 3 Episode 2:
Part 1: 1. There are a total of 32 pieces in a chess set. 2. The artists are given 4 and half hours to create the pieces. 3. The creating pieces by hand is called hand-building. 4. True 5. The extrusion tool is being used in order to help the cylinders be consistent with each other. 6. Claire is inspired by the rocks formation in Northern Ireland which were caused by volcanoes many years ago. 7. Matt put some black stain into his clay body before hand building. 8.Rosalind is using antique pieces of glass that her husband made in his job. 9. The size are determined by the blocks/pieces on the chess set. They have to fit on the blocks/pieces on the chess set. 10. Leonard left one piece out of the drying room. Part 2: 1. They need throw 3 pieces. Bowl, cylinder, and narrow necked bellied pot. 2. False. 3. For a design element, they added colored slip to the outside. 4. All pieces must be under 6cm. 5. Winning Set: the cylinder was different from many of the others because it was very narrow unlike the others and the way that he added the slip and using a brush over it. Part 3: 1. Using oxides creates a better color by fixing all the marks made on the piece. 2. Glazes fire differently from how they first appear and this is difficult for artists to deal with this because it means that they can't trust the glaze/ color that going to show and it's a guessing game on what color they are actually going to end up with. It also mean that they have to be very careful to not put the wrong glaze on their piece even though it might look like the right glaze/color that they want. 3. Kit used tape to create a crisp line. 4. Both of the sea people used shells on their boards. 5. A glaze fire take a total of 24 hours. Part 4: 1. He said in response that he wanted to make something functional. 2. Flea's pieces was hard to handle because all the sea glass and coral effect throughout her pieces. 3. I think that Claire should have won and she truly represented those qualities quite well. I thought her pieces were creative, glazed beatifically, and I really liked the background with the Northern Ireland's rocks for the shape of the pieces. Although, I do also think that Rosalinda should have won; her pieces were beautiful and the details on those faces was beautiful and the fact that she had small things like the king being taller than the queen was wonderful. 4. 1. Raku is from Japan. 2. They are weighting the ball of clay in order to make sure all the pieces are the same and weight about the same amount. The ball of clay have to be even and consistent to each other. 3. The bottle need to fill a total of six cups. If they have two bottles then they need to make 12 cups. 4. Sketch at the bottom of page. 5. The saggar is the piece on the outside covering. 6.The "off the hump" is different from the traditional throwing because with the "off the hump," you throw from one lump to the next without weighting the lump of clays like it is done with the traditional throwing and trying to make it all look about the same. 7. A lot of pieces that were thrown, the bottom had a hole in them. 8. The winner had a total of 13 bowls. 9. When turning a pot or trimming, if you over trim a piece, you can cut through the piece as holes or under trim a piece they look and feel dirty, rough, and heavy. 10. By tapping the bottom of the piece, they can tell how thick the piece is and if they suppose keep on turning the pot or trimming the piece. 11. The first firing that last 24 hours is called a Bisque fire. 12. 14th Century carving work is called, "the Devil's Work." 13. It is better to have several small pieces in a lantern piece. 14. You can draw your design in pencil first before glazing the piece. 15. Raku means happiness or enjoyment. 16. In Raku, black has no glaze and to have that black color, you have to paint the piece with wax. 17. Copper Oxides create a metallic finish to the piece such as metallic red and blue to the piece. 18.Copper wire wrapped creates black color lines around the piece. 19. Raku temperature speeds go fast. 20. The bins had sawdust in the bottom of them. 21. Items that they used to burn: hair, cooper, banana peels, seaweed, beards, pony/horse's hair, salt, lavender, flowers, cloth, flowers, and sister's hair. 22. When they put the pieces in reduction, they make the color of the piece intensifies or become stronger. 23. After the pieces have been decorated, they are dipped in a bucket of water in order to cool it down and get rid of all dirt/ things that were used to burn the piece. 24. On bottom of the page. Hello,
March 27: I just started planning out my non-clay challenge. I decided to make a hummingbird and I decided on a hummingbird because I also loved hummingbird for their beauty especially because of the multiple color pattern that they have. I also had a necklace of a hummingbird that my uncle gave me years ago and it was one of my favorite necklace ever. The point of this project is to create a piece without the use of clay with just the materials around my house. Most of the materials that I am using are old toys like tennis balls that my dogs has destroyed in the last couple of days and a couple of bottle water that he destroyed as well. I also found an old green and blue scarf and pink head scarf that we are going to donate that I am going to. I am planning to mainly use the green and blue scarf for the feathers around the wings and tails. I might use the pink scarf for some color as pink dots or pink line around the hummingbird's neck. For the eyes, I recently had a stuffed animal that got ripped and was losing filling. This filling is a tiny white balls like that I can paint black to create his eyes. I also will steal a piece of wood from outside in order to create the beak. March 30: After a couple of days, my plan for this project changed. I changed the head/beak from the toy squeaker from one of my dog's dogs. I also added some black and pink from a old sock and pink scarf to add color, eyes, and legs to my pieces. I also used a needle and gray string to keep the fabric piece together as the feathers and tails. I tried to worn the fabric into the tennis ball but it was too hard to actually get the tennis through. In the end, I thought that I had hot glue in my school but I didn't so I had to use tape and keep it all on a sheet of paper. If I could redo it, I would use hot glue instead of tape and not have a sheet of paper as part of my piece. However, I did find the color successful. I was able to have multiple and vibrant colors of a humming bird. The shape of my humming bird ended up quite similar to the reference pictures that I have of humming birds. The body of the my humming bird is more round and circular than an actually humming bird who are more thin. However, the shape and position of my humming bird matches my picture except I wish that I put the wings a little closer together. I also feel that the feather and tails have some flow of movement due to the fabric being cut up. It almost like like the wings and tails are flapping and in motion as if my humming bird is actually flying. I was mainly inspired by my love of humming bird and their vibrant color and I think that I was successful in creating that. I was successful due to having multiple colors throughout my piece. Hello,
For this project , I have to create a pit-fired piece. The first thing that I did is find five references pictures. I was really inspired by three of them. One of them has three curved line throughout the body of the piece. I want to do the same thing on my piece but I think that I have to let it dry for a bit before doing it on the wheel. Another picture has a lid with a triangle-like handler and I would to copy it as well. The final reference picture has a piece that has a short and circular shape and I want to copy it. After drawing my first draft and gluing all of my reference pictures, I started to build my piece. I also cut out a piece of cardboard with roughly the shape and size of my piece except in the end, I ended having my piece smaller than I originally wanted due to school shutting down. I started by creating a bottom before coiling out piece about the size of my thumb. I also curve the top of my piece and created a lid and handler by pitch-potting. Now, I want to let it dry for a bit before taking it to the wheel and trying to get the curves throughout the body of the piece. After that, I want to get a couple of things such as dog food, chicken bones, dog hair, and other things to burn with when we put in the pit-fire. Hello,
This week I am working on a Sgraffito process. We have to create a Sgraffito around the idea of some specific kind of food material such as a cereal bowl. I decided on making a orange juice vase, which is important to me because I always have fresh orange juice when I am home. I decided that my design is going to be multiple tree branches around the base of the vase with two birds, a raven and northern cardinal, meeting near the tip of the vase. I might make the handler of the vase look like a tree trunk. To start this process, I had to create my vase. I had to grab a piece of clay before sketching it out to make the bottom or base of my vase. Later, I just started to coil the entire piece. Going from small to big before going small then big. After I had my vase the size that I needed, I began to curve the clay to look how I wanted it to look before making the tip of the vase. After that, I began to smooth it out on the outside and inside with a modeling tool, a spoon, and a paint brush. I let the piece dry out for a bit before grabbing the black underglaze and I just started to paint it. It's probably going to take four or five time of painting for me to get it perfect. Once I do, I am going to draw a design on a sheet of paper before tracing it on my piece with a washable marker and then I simply going to curve out my design with a curving tool. I decided to curve around my design, meaning that my branches and birds except for the cardinal will be black while the background will be white. This is my second time doing Sgraffito and I always loved Sgraffito. The first time that I did it was really fun so is this time. I really like my design and it means a lot to me because a raven represent one of my favorite Edward Allen Poe's poem and the cardinal was my grandfather's favorite bird. I think that the shape of my vase is a little weird and I guess that if I could redo it, I would dry the piece after a couple of coils in order to keep the base from curving inward. I think that overall my actual Sgraffito was very successful. I really like how my birds ended up looking especially my raven and my branches did turn out looking like branches. On the Northern Cardinal side, I might have added a little bit more details on my branches if I could redo it. |
