Hello,
March 27: I just started planning out my non-clay challenge. I decided to make a hummingbird and I decided on a hummingbird because I also loved hummingbird for their beauty especially because of the multiple color pattern that they have. I also had a necklace of a hummingbird that my uncle gave me years ago and it was one of my favorite necklace ever. The point of this project is to create a piece without the use of clay with just the materials around my house. Most of the materials that I am using are old toys like tennis balls that my dogs has destroyed in the last couple of days and a couple of bottle water that he destroyed as well. I also found an old green and blue scarf and pink head scarf that we are going to donate that I am going to. I am planning to mainly use the green and blue scarf for the feathers around the wings and tails. I might use the pink scarf for some color as pink dots or pink line around the hummingbird's neck. For the eyes, I recently had a stuffed animal that got ripped and was losing filling. This filling is a tiny white balls like that I can paint black to create his eyes. I also will steal a piece of wood from outside in order to create the beak. March 30: After a couple of days, my plan for this project changed. I changed the head/beak from the toy squeaker from one of my dog's dogs. I also added some black and pink from a old sock and pink scarf to add color, eyes, and legs to my pieces. I also used a needle and gray string to keep the fabric piece together as the feathers and tails. I tried to worn the fabric into the tennis ball but it was too hard to actually get the tennis through. In the end, I thought that I had hot glue in my school but I didn't so I had to use tape and keep it all on a sheet of paper. If I could redo it, I would use hot glue instead of tape and not have a sheet of paper as part of my piece. However, I did find the color successful. I was able to have multiple and vibrant colors of a humming bird. The shape of my humming bird ended up quite similar to the reference pictures that I have of humming birds. The body of the my humming bird is more round and circular than an actually humming bird who are more thin. However, the shape and position of my humming bird matches my picture except I wish that I put the wings a little closer together. I also feel that the feather and tails have some flow of movement due to the fabric being cut up. It almost like like the wings and tails are flapping and in motion as if my humming bird is actually flying. I was mainly inspired by my love of humming bird and their vibrant color and I think that I was successful in creating that. I was successful due to having multiple colors throughout my piece.
